The Hottest New Outdoor Sport!

ParFishing (short for Parking Lot Fishing) is a new sport that allows you to experience the thrill and excitement of competitive angling. ParFishing's Casting Challenge takes place in parking lots all across the country in search of the nations most accurate anglers. At the root of ParFishing is the desire to put a rod and reel into the hands of America and to promote the sport of fishing.

Who can participate in ParFishing?

Anyone can participate in ParFishing no matter what their age or skill level. The novice will learn and master the same casting techniques used by the pros. Experienced anglers will be challenged by the demand for pinpoint accuracy needed to bring home the highest score and bragging rights.

How do you play ParFishing?

ParFishing is a true Casting Challenge. Participants flip, pitch or cast toward each target. There are a total of nine casting targets, similar to nine holes on a golf course. Each target contains four scoring areas in its four foot diameter circle. Each target contains the same cup and flag pole used at the golf course.

The nine casting targets are placed at different distances requiring good depth perception and casting judgement. The targets are place from five feet to thirty feet from the casting location. Each participant will stand in one location and cast to all nine targets.

How do you score points in ParFishing?

Each target has four scoring areas. You can score 1, 5, 10 or 12 points, the outside ring being the lowest score and the center ring being the highest score. The object of the game is to accumulate as many points as you can through the nine casting targets. The highest possible score is 108 points.

Is ParFishing hard to play?

No. ParFishing is easy to play. If you can cast a fishing rod and reel you can play.

What makes ParFishing so much fun and challenging?

Making accurate cast is the challenging part of ParFishing. Real fishing requires skill and accuracy to place the bait in just the right spot. The same is true for ParFishing. Casting at different distances requires you to make soft delicate cast as well as cast with more energy. Versatility is a plus when several casting techniques are required. The wind can also be a challenge when playing outdoors.

What type of equipment do I need to compete in ParFishing?

All you need is your favorite fishing rod and reel with a skirted jig attached. You can use a close faced reel, bait casting reel or a spinning reel. (no fly rods)

What is the ParFishing experience like?

The announcer calls your name as if he were introducing the starting line-up for the World Series.

It's your time to shine. Only nine casting targets stand between you and the winners circle.

You step up to the line with the look and determination of an NBA player getting set to toss a free throw to win the game.

With your rod and reel in hand, you make a cast toward target #1. Much like the gallery at the Masters Golf Tournament, the other contestants and observers follow your cast through the air in total silence. The result... you've hit your target dead center, the crowd goes wild. Now you have eight casting targets to go.

The official score keeper tabulates your progress after each cast. You're not satisfied by scoring 1, 5 or 10 points, you want it all. You're going for broke, the bulls-eye for 12 points.

The high energy music has your adrenalin pumping; you are in the zone through the remainder of the course. You feel good. You can't stop smiling as you high-five your friends as you make way for the next competitor.

Why should I participate in a ParFishing Casting Challenge?

You’ll have fun and be able to compete like the pros at the same time.
You’ll improve your casting skills.
You’ll be more accurate and confident when you go out on the water on your next fishing trip.
The whole family can participate.
You may be the next person standing in the winners circle. You may find out you are one of the nation’s most accurate anglers.
You’ll be hooked.

Nashville, TN -
Cold weather and snow didn't stop participants from taking part in the 3rd Annual Bass Pro Shops Tennessee State Casting Championships held in Nashville, TN. this past weekend. As a matter of fact, some of the highest score ever were recorded despite temperatures in the low 30's. 9 year old Alex Haffner of Murfreesburo, TN. took home bragging rights and the title "Tennessee State Youth Champion" (age 0 - 10). The Tennessee State Jr. Champion (age 11 - 16) went to 15 year old Clay Willis of Henderson, KY. Coming back to defend his title in the Adult Division and to take home his second consecutive TN State Championship was Rusty Rust of Mt. Juliet, TN.

"The competition was really tough this year" said Andy Afflick, creator and producer of the ParFishing Casting Challenge. "The kids that come to this event get better every year. This is the first year that several kids actually scored higher than some of the adults. This is a great indicator that what we are doing is working, and that's putting a rod and reel back into the hands of America and getting kids and adults involved in the sport of fishing."

The ParFishing Casting Challenge is a free event for all ages held all across the country promoting family outdoor entertainment and the sport of fishing. Try It, You Might Just Like It

by Andy Afflick

Sure, I'll give it a try, how hard can it be. Within a few minutes I had more fly line on me than I did on the reel.

After watching me suffer through the embarrassment of my first attempts at casting a fly rod, Cindy Garrison, Host of ESPN's "In Search of Fly Waters" and "Get Wild With Cindy Garrison", decided to step in and offer a little of her professional expertise.

Obviously I was well out of my comfort zone, but that didn't prevent me from giving it the old college try. Within minutes, Cindy had me casting like a pro!...semi pro!...OK...a true beginner! But I did try and enjoyed it so much I'm now fishing for the proper gear to get my feet wet in the nearest stream.

When it comes to Outdoor experiences, never say no to an opportunity to learn something new. Yes, your friends may laugh, but the laughing usually stops the first time you bring more weight to the scales.

Casting Challenge Fun for Everyone!

Auburn, New York -
New York has its first ParFishing Casting Champion. This past Saturday folks from 3 yrs old to 87 yrs old came to try and take home the title of "New York State Champion" in the Toyota Trucks / Bass Pro Shops New York State Casting Championships held at Bass Pro Shops in Auburn, New York.

"This is the only sport I know of where anyone of any age can walk up, with no entree fee, cast, and have the chance of going home a State Champion" said Andy Afflick, ParFishing creator. "Our goal is to put a rod and reel back into the hands of America, create a competitive sport the whole family can enjoy and promote the sport of fishing".

Families came out in full force. Son's scored higher than their fathers, wives out-casts their husbands but in the end it was Jeff Edwards, 23, of Elmira, NY who took home the title "New York State Champion" in the Adult Division. Coming in second was Ralph Estes, 54, of Geneva, NY.
With the highest score in the Junior Division, Colden Getz, 12, of Willseyfille, NY claimed the Junior New York State Champion title while Michael Moore, 12, of Lincoln, NY placed 2nd.

For the first time in the history of the ParFishing Tournament Trail, two youth tied for first place. This truly was an opportunity for these two young anglers to feel the same excitement and pressure as a Tournament Pro. There was nothing else to do but have a Tie Breaking round. Each would cast to five targets placed at different distances. When the last cast hit its target, it was 10 yr old Jack Pope, of Genesco, NY being crowned Youth Champion with TJ Baranick, 8, of Auburn, NY taking home a well earned 2nd.

ParFishing Crowns Missouri State Champion

St. Louis, MO - True Champions can perform under the most adverse conditions, and that is exactly what Mother Nature dished out to the competitors at ParFishing's Missouri State Championship held at Bass Pro Shops in St. Charles this past weekend.

Thirty mile an hour winds were tough to negotiate no matter what casting technique was used. The best still seemed to get the job done. Jake Sitze of East Alton, Illinois, was crowned Missouri's Most Accurate Angler in the adult division. Sitze isn't new to casting, in 1999 he won a state Casting Kids Championship sponsored by the B.A.S.S. "I can't believe I won. Nobody is going to believe me when I tell them I just won the title of Missouri's Most Accurate Angler" said Sitze.

Winners of the ParFishing Casting Challenge are all smiles
Coming in second in the adult division was Ben Gibbs of St. Charles, Mo. The Missouri State Champion in the Jr. Division was Bennet Langstadt also of St. Charles, with Jeff Royer of Pontoon Beach, Illinois coming in a close second. Christian Waldow of St. Peters, MO. was all smiles as he picked up the trophy for Youth State Champion. Coming in second in the Youth Division was St. Charles resident, John Spiegel.

ParFishing goes Country next month in Nashville, TN. Be sure and attend the ParFishing Celebrity Challenge at the CMA Music Fest. ParFishing crowns Country Music's Most Accurate Angler. The ParFishing Tournament Trail was created to promote family outdoor entertainment and to promote the sport of fishing.
